The Biology Intensive Workshop is an option for students that will prepare you for BIO 311C courses this fall.

Since 2012, the College of Natural Sciences has offered a Biology Intensive Workshop for entering freshmen prior to the beginning of fall classes. Students experience college lectures and exams, participate in discussion sessions, practice study skills in breakout sessions and get the chance to network with peers and faculty.

The Biology Intensive Workshop is an optional complementary workshop for entering CNS freshman who are registered in BIO 311C by July 21, 2021.

Workshop activities

Workshop participants will be invited into a temporary Canvas course with all workshop materials and resources provided. The workshop is designed to help you understand UT's course expectations and format for fall.

Online sessions will include get-acquainted activities and introductions to UT resources for learning biology.

The workshop includes lectures from Introductory Biology professors, followed by interactive breakout sessions about the lecture topic as well as a useful learning strategy. Lectures will be on BIO 311C topics such as membrane structure and function, weak chemical bonds in cells, proteins & cell traffic, DNA & mutations, energy transformation in cells.

You will join a Zoom meeting talking with your own fall 2021 BIO 311C instructor and classmates. This is always a popular feature of the Workshop!

You will take short college-level practice test (questions from BIO 311C exams) and discuss the answers afterwards.
